(This is lowkey turning into a Sarah Adams series but I promise I am in the process of reading something new).
OVERALL RATING; LIRE, π₯π₯π₯/5
Sarah Adams knows the formula and she sticks to it. The slow burn, falling in love, small conflict, happy couple and flash forward to a kid on the way. Normally, I am a huge fan of this kind of trope for an easy nighttime read. But for “The Match” I was left wanting more.
Adam’s didn’t transport me to this Southern, charming town of Charleston. The descriptions were lackluster, and sitting in Centre County, PA; I couldn’t escape my reality and envision myself walking along colorful buildings. Additionally, there wasn’t enough pushback from the main character, Jake, nor enough to work with to envision the characters. Everything seemed way too simple for the weight of such a complex and touchy situation. While I don’t not recommend it, if you only have $16 to spend on a book, I’d suggest spending it elsewhere first.
BRIEF SUMMARY
“The Match” follows the main character Evie, a 20-something-year-old girl with epilepsy and Southern charm that goes nowhere without her service animal. While working for Southern Service Paws, she meets Jake, a local architect, with a little girl recently diagnosed with epilepsy. Evie and Jake get to know each other better as they work to train a service animal for his daughter, but they eventually get to each other a little bit more than friends.
This is the first part of Adam’s two-part series “It Happened in Charleston.”
